Ombudsman Criticizes Slow Disciplinary Action Over Karachi HIV Outbreak
HYDERABAD: Sindh Ombudsman Dr Mohammad Sohail Rajput has voiced his disappointment regarding the sluggish pace of disciplinary proceedings against 64 employees of the Kulsoom Bai Valika Hospital, linked to a recent HIV outbreak. Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, Rajput emphasized the urgency of addressing the situation, which has raised significant public health concerns.
Rajput, a former chief secretary of Sindh, noted that while criminal proceedings against the hospital staff have been finalized, the disciplinary actions are lagging behind. He expressed regret over the delay, stating, “It is unfortunate to see the disciplinary proceedings against these employees moving so slowly, especially given the severity of the outbreak that has affected numerous patients.”
The HIV outbreak at the hospital has sparked widespread alarm, highlighting systemic issues within healthcare facilities in the region. The ombudsman’s comments reflect a growing frustration among citizens and health advocates who demand accountability and swift action to prevent further incidents. The situation underscores the need for stringent oversight and reform in healthcare practices to safeguard public health.
Looking ahead, the Sindh Ombudsman’s office is expected to intensify its efforts to expedite the disciplinary process. Rajput has called for a thorough investigation and has urged relevant authorities to prioritize the health and safety of patients. The community awaits further updates as the ombudsman’s office works to ensure justice and accountability in this critical matter.
