Pakistan Assumes Chairmanship of Intergovernmental Group of Twenty-Four
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has officially taken over the chairmanship of the Intergovernmental Group of Twenty-Four (G24), a significant step in enhancing its role in global economic discussions. This transition was announced during the recent G24 meeting held in Washington, D.C., where member countries convened to address pressing economic challenges.
The G24, which includes developing countries, focuses on issues related to international monetary and financial systems. Pakistan’s Finance Minister, Ishaq Dar, emphasized the importance of this leadership role, stating, “Our chairmanship will allow us to advocate for the interests of developing nations and ensure that their voices are heard in global economic forums.” This leadership position is expected to bolster Pakistan’s influence in international economic policy-making.
This development comes at a crucial time as Pakistan faces economic challenges, including inflation and fiscal deficits. By chairing the G24, Pakistan aims to leverage its position to attract foreign investment and foster economic stability. Analysts believe that this could lead to enhanced cooperation with other member states, potentially benefiting Pakistan’s economy in the long run.
Looking ahead, Pakistan will host a series of meetings with G24 member countries to discuss strategies for addressing global economic issues. The first meeting under Pakistan’s chairmanship is scheduled for next month, where key topics will include sustainable development and financial inclusion for developing nations.
