Punjab Government Secures Diesel Supplies for 1,180MW Bhikki Power Plant
LAHORE: The Punjab government is actively arranging high-speed diesel (HSD) supplies for its 1,180MW Bhikki power plant located in Sheikhupura. This initiative aims to address the energy demands of the region, with the cost of electricity generated from diesel projected at approximately Rs. 74 per unit.
Quaid-e-Azam Thermal Power (Private) Limited (QATPL), the state-owned entity managing the plant, has issued an invitation for oil marketing companies to prequalify for a three-year diesel supply contract. This move underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring a reliable energy supply amidst ongoing challenges in the energy sector.
The implications of this development are significant for both consumers and the economy. With rising energy costs, the government’s decision to utilize diesel as a primary fuel source may lead to increased electricity prices for households and businesses. This could further strain the financial capabilities of citizens already grappling with inflationary pressures.
Looking ahead, the Punjab government is expected to finalize contracts with selected oil suppliers in the coming weeks. This will be crucial for the operational efficiency of the Bhikki power plant, which plays a vital role in the province’s energy landscape.
