ISLAMABAD: Senator Sherry Rehman emphasized the urgent need for a fundamental overhaul of climate priorities, describing the global environmental challenge as a multi-layered crisis. Speaking at a Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) event on ‘Strengthening Climate Action’ on Monday, she highlighted the growing intersection of artificial intelligence, energy security, and geopolitical instability.

Rehman asserted that modern ecological realities necessitate integrated strategies rather than isolated interventions. She warned that the world is entering an age of unprecedented disruption, urging countries to move beyond fragmented responses and to rethink their approaches to development, technology, and resource security. “Climate change is no longer the only part of the polycrisis. It is intersecting with everything else,” she stated, calling for a shift in priorities to combat a narrative of doom and gloom.

The senator referenced the UNEP Emissions Gap Report, suggesting its findings should serve as a wake-up call for nations to enhance their climate action efforts. She stressed that the interconnected nature of current global challenges requires a collaborative and comprehensive response to effectively address climate change.

Looking ahead, Rehman urged policymakers to convene discussions that focus on integrating climate strategies with technological advancements and energy policies. She emphasized the importance of international cooperation in tackling these pressing issues, as the world faces a critical juncture in its climate response.
