Punjab Aims for 16.5 Million Acres of Wheat Cultivation This Season
LAHORE: The Punjab government has set an ambitious target of cultivating 16.5 million acres of wheat for the upcoming agricultural season, aiming to bolster food security and support local farmers. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance agricultural productivity in the province.
Officials from the Punjab Agriculture Department announced the target during a recent press briefing, highlighting the importance of wheat as a staple food in Pakistan. The department emphasized that achieving this target will require coordinated efforts from farmers, agricultural experts, and government support, including the provision of quality seeds and fertilizers.
This cultivation target is crucial for the province, which is the largest wheat producer in Pakistan, contributing significantly to the national economy. Meeting this goal is expected to stabilize wheat prices and ensure sufficient supply for both domestic consumption and export, thereby enhancing the livelihoods of farmers and contributing to rural development.
Looking ahead, the Punjab government plans to hold a series of workshops and training sessions for farmers to educate them on best practices for wheat cultivation. These initiatives are aimed at maximizing yield and minimizing losses due to pests and diseases, ensuring that the province meets its ambitious agricultural goals.
