Singer Qazi Touqeer Secures Major Bollywood Deal With Composer Sajid Khan
MUMBAI: Singer Qazi Touqeer, who shot to nationwide fame after winning the inaugural music reality show Fame Gurukool in 2005, has secured a significant career resurgence after veteran Bollywood composer Sajid Khan offered him five major playback tracks. The unexpected development comes nearly two decades after Touqeer first captured public attention, marking a dramatic professional turnaround for the artist.
During a recent high-profile gathering, composer Sajid Khan—of the famed Sajid-Wajid musical duo known for numerous Salman Khan blockbuster soundtracks—publicly extended the multi-song offer to Touqeer. The music director praised the singer’s distinctive vocal texture and persistence in the competitive Hindi film industry, noting that Touqeer’s talent deserved a mainstream platform in upcoming commercial projects.
Touqeer famously won Fame Gurukool in 2005 alongside Ruprekha Banerjee, famously defeating contemporary music sensation Arijit Singh during the competition. However, while Singh went on to become one of South Asia’s most celebrated playback vocalists, Touqeer experienced prolonged professional stagnation and sporadic indie releases, highlighting the volatile nature of sudden fame within the Indian entertainment landscape.
Studio recordings for the newly commissioned tracks are slated to begin in Mumbai in the coming weeks, with producers expected to reveal the cinematic titles featuring Touqeer’s vocals shortly. Industry observers view the move as a poignant example of artistic persistence, providing Touqeer with an avenue to re-establish his commercial credentials in the modern Bollywood music market.
